Everyone Wants to Use AI — But Most People Are Skipping the One Skill That Actually Matters

We’re handing out powerful AI tools like candy — but who’s making sure people know how to think before they use them?

I’ve spent the last two years watching smart, capable people dive headfirst into AI… and burn out just as fast. They weren’t lacking intelligence — they were lacking foundation. Critical thinking. Curiosity. The fundamentals.

They tried to go from zero to genius — AI to Z — without understanding how or why these systems work. Like Icarus, they flew too close to the sun. And when things went wrong, they couldn’t explain it — because they never knew how they got there.

AI is impressive, yes. But it’s not magic. It was built on centuries of human curiosity, trial, failure, and deep thinking — the same spirit that helped the Wright brothers invent flight by watching birds, testing designs, and asking why.

Here’s the truth:
AI can give you answers. But if you don’t know how to ask the right questions, it’s useless.

We don’t need everyone to code. But we do need everyone — especially future generations — to learn how to question, explore, research, and think critically.

“I think, therefore I am.” That’s not just philosophy. It’s survival. In a world shaped by artificial intelligence, thinking is our last competitive advantage.

So, before we give everyone the tools of tomorrow, let’s teach them the mindset that got us here in the first place.

Let’s raise thinkers — not just users

I have been meening to write this but was inspired by Harvey Ashley University of Nottingham tonight!
